Combi or system boiler?
A combi heats your radiators and gives hot water on demand from one unit, with no cylinder and no loft tank. It suits most one to three bed homes with a single bathroom. If two showers run at once, or you have several bathrooms, a system boiler is the honest answer and we will say so at the survey. What is a combi boiler?
A combi (combination) boiler heats your radiators and provides hot water on demand from one unit, with no separate hot water cylinder or loft tank. It saves space and only heats the water you use.
Combi or system boiler, which is better?
Neither is better overall. Combi suits 1 to 3 bed homes with one bathroom. A system boiler with a cylinder is better for larger homes or where two showers run at once. We size it honestly at the survey.
Can I run two showers at once with a combi boiler?
Not well. A combi delivers hot water to one outlet at a time before flow drops. If you regularly need two outlets at once, a system boiler with a cylinder is the better choice for your home.
How much does a combi boiler cost installed?
Our installs start at £1,895 fully fitted, fixed price after a 20 minute survey. Nationally a mid-range combi runs roughly £2,000 to £2,800 installed; we tell you the exact figure before any work starts.
Is a combi boiler cheaper to run?
A modern combi only heats water on demand, so for a small to medium home it is usually more efficient than an older system boiler with a cylinder losing heat. Savings depend on your home and usage.
Can I switch from a system boiler to a combi?
Yes. It typically takes two days because we drain and remove the old cylinder, re-route the hot water feed and reinstate the airing cupboard. We quote the full job as one fixed price.
