The small jobs that get worse if they wait. Most are fixed inside the £80 first-hour rate, parts at trade price, no upsell.
A dripping tap is almost always a worn cartridge or a tired washer. A noisy toilet cistern is usually a ballcock or a float valve that’s gone slow. A wobbly seat is a five-minute fix. We carry the common parts on the van so the typical visit ends inside the first hour, and we tell you up front if the job is bigger than that. Mixer taps, monobloc taps, traditional pillar taps and bathroom basin sets: we replace or repair all of them.

Kitchen & utility
Appliance installs, connected properly.
Washing machine, dishwasher, gas hob, water-fed fridge. Done in a single visit with the right waste, the right isolation valve, and the right certificate where it's a gas appliance.
A washing machine or dishwasher install needs a proper isolation valve on the hot and cold (so the next change-over is a five-minute job), a waste connection that won’t airlock, and a test fill before we leave. Typical visit is one hour at the £80 fixed rate. A gas hob install must be done by a Gas Safe registered engineer (we are) with a tightness test and a certificate; see the gas cookers page for the full detail on those.
Older properties
Cast iron and lead pipe, a specialism we don't shy away from.
Many Yorkshire homes still have original cast iron soil stacks and lead supply pipes. We work with them properly: jointing compounds for cast iron, lead-to-copper transition fittings, and replacement runs in copper or MDPE where appropriate.
Period properties bring period plumbing: cast iron stacks behind the bath, lead supply runs from the stopcock to the kitchen tap, copper pipework that’s been jointed half a dozen times. We’ve worked on these systems for thirty years and we know when to repair sympathetically (keep the cast iron stack, just rejoint) versus when a partial replacement is the smarter call (replace the lead run to the kitchen tap for drinking-water safety). We quote on survey rather than over the phone, because every old property is a slightly different problem.
Out the back
Garden taps, filters, and cold water tanks.
The bits that don't quite belong anywhere else. Outdoor garden taps with a proper isolation valve indoors and freeze protection. Under-sink water filters plumbed in. Loft cold water tank replacements where they've reached the end.
A garden tap fit is a half-day job: drilling out, fitting a new isolation valve on the cold supply, running 15 mm pipe to the outside wall, and adding a check valve so back-flow can’t contaminate the mains. Drinking water filters under the sink (carbon or reverse-osmosis depending on what the local water needs) take an hour or so. Cold water tanks in the loft are usually replaced when they’ve corroded or are leaking; a like-for-like replacement is typically two to three hours including a re-balance of the system. All at the £80 first-hour rate, parts at trade price.

Do you do emergency plumbing call-outs?
Yes, same-day where we can across Yorkshire, especially if you call before 11am. We hold slots back for genuine emergencies like a burst pipe or a major leak and tell you straight if we cannot make it today.
How much does a plumbing repair cost?
£80 for the first hour's labour plus any parts at trade price, quoted before we order them. Most jobs are done inside that first hour. There is no separate call-out fee added on top of the hourly rate.
What should I do if I have a burst pipe or major leak?
Turn off the water at the stopcock straight away, switch off the heating, and call us. Catching the water first limits the damage. We carry the common parts on the van so most leaks are fixed first visit.
Do you fix dripping taps and replace cylinders?
Yes. Dripping or seized taps, ballcocks, toilet repairs, leaking joints and hot water cylinder replacement are everyday jobs for us. We are G3 certified for unvented cylinders, so the work is signed off correctly.
Are your plumbers qualified and what is the first-time-fix promise?
Every BASI engineer is an employed, uniformed professional, never a sub-contractor, Gas Safe and G3 certified where relevant. If we can't fix it on the first visit (because we need a part we don't carry on the van) we deduct 50% of the fee paid for the first visit off the price of the return visit.
