Power flushing, by hand, properly
Cold radiator bottoms, sludgy water, kettling boilers. We hand-flush every radiator individually with a magnetic filter on the return, dose the system, and fit a Magna Clean as standard. From £450 fully fitted with a written before-and-after report.
When a power flush is the right call
If your radiators are cold at the bottom but warm at the top, if some rooms never quite get there even with the thermostat cranked up, or if the boiler is making a low kettling rumble, the system is almost certainly carrying sludge. Sludge is iron oxide that builds up in older central heating circuits, settles in radiator bottoms and pump impellers, and gradually chokes the flow. A power flush physically shifts it, inhibitor stops it coming back, and the Magna Clean we fit on the return catches whatever the system produces over the next few years.
What we actually do on the day
Two engineers, one full day for a normal three-bed home. We isolate the boiler from the circuit, connect a flush pump and a magnetic filter to the return, dose with the cleaning chemical, and then work radiator by radiator: each one isolated, opened up, flushed in both directions, and put back into the circuit. Nothing rushed. The water we extract goes through the magnetic filter so we can show you what we shifted. At the end we re-balance the radiators, dose the system inhibitor, fit the Magna Clean if not already there, and leave you a one-page written flow report.
Magna Clean filter, fitted as standard
The biggest reason a flush “doesn’t last” is that the system goes straight back to producing sludge. A magnetic filter on the return catches the iron oxide before it settles, and a quick clean of the filter at each annual service keeps the system clean indefinitely. Every power flush we do comes with a Magna Clean fitted to the return next to the boiler. We can also retrofit one as a standalone job for around £225 fully fitted, including an inhibitor top-up. Read more on our boiler servicing page for the annual checks that keep the filter doing its job.

Family-run, Yorkshire through and through. You can tell they actually care.
Replaced our 25-year-old boiler in a single day. Tidy, polite, on the dot. Couldn't fault them.
Quoted fixed-price, no surprises. The engineer explained every step. Brilliant from start to finish.
Came out same day when our heating packed in mid-winter. Absolute lifesavers.
Used BASI for years for our annual service. Always punctual, always thorough.
New Vaillant, 10-year warranty, finance sorted in a phone call. Smoothest install we have had.

Questions
Things people ask. The honest answers.
How do I know if I need a power flush?
Tell-tale signs are radiators that are cold at the bottom but hot at the top, radiators that take a long time to warm up, brown sludgy water when you bleed a rad, the boiler making a kettling noise, or your system needing repressurising often. We'll confirm with a flow check before we quote.
How long does a power flush take?
A standard 8-10 radiator system takes one full day with two engineers. Larger or older systems can run into a second day. We work radiator by radiator with a magnetic filter on the return so we capture everything we shift.
What does the price include?
Chemical pre-treatment, the full hand-flush of every radiator and the boiler heat exchanger, a system inhibitor dosed before we leave, a Magna Clean filter fitted on the return as standard, and a written before/after flow report. No upsell on the day.
Is a power flush worth it on an old system?
Honest answer: not always. If the boiler is 12+ years old and the radiators are mostly cold-spotted, a flush can buy you a few more winters, but a new high-efficiency boiler with a system clean often makes more financial sense over five years. We'll show you both numbers and let you choose.
Do you fit a filter as part of the job?
Yes. A Magna Clean is included in the standard power-flush price, fitted on the return next to the boiler. It catches the magnetic sludge your system will produce over the next few years, so the flush lasts much longer.
