Gas fires: install, service and repair
Open-flue, balanced-flue and flueless gas fires across Yorkshire by Gas Safe registered engineers. Annual servicing from £80, same-day repair cover where we can, fixed-price quotes on new installs.
A new gas fire, fitted properly
A new gas fire is part chimney survey, part gas-supply check, part finish carpentry, and all of it needs Gas Safe sign-off. We measure the chimney or wall, check the existing gas supply rate is enough for the heat input you want, talk you through the options (decorative effect vs heating output, balanced flue if there’s no chimney, flueless for a clean wall fit), and quote a fixed price that includes the appliance, the hearth, the surround if you want one, and the Gas Safe commissioning certificate. No upsell on the day.
Annual servicing, like your boiler
A gas fire wants a yearly service for the same reasons a boiler does: to verify the flame picture and burner, test for flue spillage with a smoke pellet, check the safety devices (thermocouple, oxygen-depletion sensor on flueless models), and clean the pilot assembly. We do it at the same £80 fixed price as a standard gas boiler service and leave you a written record. Book it on the same visit as your boiler service if it makes life easier.
Same-day repair, where we can
A gas fire that won’t light is rarely a big-cost repair. The common culprits, failed thermocouple, dirty pilot, battery in the ignition pack, are all parts we carry on the van. If you call before 11am we’ll usually get there the same day, fix it in the first hour at the standard £80 rate, and only charge parts at trade price.

Questions
Things people ask. The honest answers.
Do you install all types of gas fire?
Yes: open-flue, balanced-flue, flueless catalytic, and decorative effect fires from the main UK manufacturers. We'll survey the chimney or wall, check the gas supply rate, and quote a fixed price including the hearth, the surround and the certificate.
How often should a gas fire be serviced?
Annually, the same as a boiler. A service checks the burner, the pilot, the flame picture, the flue (for spillage), and the safety devices. We leave a written record and a manufacturer-approved service stamp where applicable. £80 fixed for a standard gas fire service, the same as our boiler service price.
My gas fire won't light, can you fix it today?
Often, yes. The usual culprits are a failed thermocouple, a worn pilot injector, or a battery in the ignition pack. We carry the common parts on the van. Same-day where we can, especially if you call before 11am. £80 first hour, parts at trade price, first-time-fix promise.
Is a flueless gas fire safe?
Flueless (catalytic) fires are safe and certified for indoor use, but they need a permanent ventilation opening sized to the fire's heat input, and they're not suitable for bedrooms or bathrooms. We check the room volume and ventilation against the manufacturer's spec before we quote.
Do I need to be on the Gas Safe Register to install one?
By law, anyone installing or working on a domestic gas appliance in the UK must be Gas Safe registered. Every BASI engineer is. Our Gas Safe registration is 623525, checkable at gassaferegister.co.uk.
