The ECO boiler scheme in Leeds and the rest of the UK is a government funded scheme that enables some households to receive a free replacement boiler to improve the energy efficiency of their home.
Who is eligible?
There are two criteria:
- You own your own home (or live in a privately owned rented home)
- Someone in your home receives benefits, including pension credit, universal credit, child benefit, jobseeker’s allowance, income support, carer’s allowance and disability living allowance
Check the full eligibility list on the government website, as it has changed since this was written.
What are the benefits?
You save on the cost of a new boiler, but the major long-term saving is a reduction in your monthly heating bills. The Energy Saving Trust estimated that around 55% of household bill costs go towards heating, so an efficient boiler goes a long way. Annual savings from a new boiler were estimated at up to £315 a year, depending on the age and state of your existing boiler.
