With summer drawing to a close, you want to make sure your boiler is in top condition ahead of winter when it will be under increased pressure. Here is our checklist.

A warm home prepared for the winter months

Get a boiler service

An annual service is essential to remove dust and dirt accumulated over a long summer of low usage. Without one, your boiler can become slow, uneconomical and prone to a costly breakdown. For the warning signs, see our guide on the signs you need a new boiler.

Keep your warranty safe

If disaster strikes, you want to be protected by a manufacturer’s warranty. Keep all your documents safe and book an annual service, which is a stipulation of most warranties.

Get a professional’s advice

If you notice anything different when you start using your heating again, get it checked. Do radiators take longer to warm up? Does the boiler come on at unusual times? These could be signs of a more serious issue.

Get a boiler breakdown fixed properly

If your boiler breaks down, do not try to fix it yourself. Call a professional, otherwise you are likely to do more damage than good and void your warranty.

Consider boiler insurance

If your boiler breaks down suddenly, you could be left out in the cold and out of pocket. A cover plan means you are protected against costly repair bills, with an engineer sent out to get things running again.

Look after your boiler, and it will look after you all year round. For current pricing, see our boiler service page.
